What we make
Low-risk adaptations with a very specific job.
Access Made Iowa is for the useful middle ground between an off-the-shelf product and a regulated or safety-critical medical device.

Good fit
Things we can explore
- Tablet and AAC keyguards
- Writing, craft and utensil grips
- Switch holders and button guides
- Device stands and non-load-bearing mounts
- Drawer, zipper and knob extensions
- Gaming and hobby adaptations
- Classroom and library accessibility tools
- Organizers, spacers, guides and positioning aids for objects
- Custom one-off parts where failure is inconvenient—not dangerous

Outside our scope
Things we will decline
- Structural wheelchair or mobility-device parts
- Anything intended to bear body weight
- Braces, orthotics or restraints
- Implantable or body-internal items
- Medication dosing or drug-delivery devices
- Life-supporting or medically critical devices
- Mains-powered electrical modifications
- Anything where a print failure could reasonably cause serious injury
Our test
What happens if this part fails?
If the answer is “annoying, inconvenient, try again,” it may be a maker project. If the answer is “someone could be injured,” we need a different path.
Project workflow
Every build gets a record.
AMI-0001IntakeProblem, goal, measurements, photos and permissions.
AMI-0001ReviewScope, safety, feasibility and who should collaborate.
AMI-0001PrototypeDesign and build. Failed versions are part of the process.

Example request
“My tablet slides when I use it.”
Possible direction: a non-slip base or fitted positioning frame.
Example request
“This knob is too small to turn.”
Possible direction: a larger removable grip or lever extension.
Example request
“I can play if the controller stays put.”
Possible direction: a desk cradle or non-load-bearing stabilizer.
These are examples of the kinds of problems we may explore, not promises that a particular design is safe or appropriate for every person.
